About the Author

Hi there!  I’m Jon Chaisson, the author of the Bridgetown Trilogy and creator of the Mendaihu Universe.

I’m a writer, obsessive collector of music, novice photographer, compulsive map drawer, okay bass player, halfway decent guitar player, and known for eating/drinking more sugary things than I really should.  I grew up in Athol, MA for a good portion of my life, with a five-plus year run in Boston, where I went to Emerson College and graduated with a BA in Film Studies.  I’ve been living in San Francisco since 2005, where I’ve been writing science fiction ever since.

My first novel was born in 1984 and was finally finished in 1987, when I was in high school, and is definitely not worth publishing.  Since then I’ve written in fits and starts until about 1997 when the Bridgetown Trilogy was born.

I’m a writer mainly of science fiction and fantasy, but I’ll occasionally branch out into mainstream fiction.  I also write poetry and music, and many blog entries about music.  You might say I like to keep myself busy.  My first official time in print was in 2006 when I accidentally got a paying publication in the west coast literary magazine ZYZZYVA.  Earlier in 2015 I appeared in the anthology Uniquely North Quabbin.  At present, all three books in the Bridgetown Trilogy are available in e-book form.  If you’re interested, please check out my ‘Buy Stuff’ link above, which will direct you to where you can buy my books.

I try to write something every day, though my music obsession does sometimes get the best of me.  Still–it’s a hell of a lot of fun.

My writing nook goes under the name Spare Oom in honor of C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a book I read as a child.  Its window looks out over my neighborhood with a lovely view of the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge…that is, when it’s not foggy.

INFLUENCES AND INSPIRATION:  Kate Elliott, Holly Lisle, Richard Paul Russo, Lee J Hindle, Douglas Adams, Judith Tarr, Melanie Rawn, Douglas Coupland, Dave Sim, Masashi Kishimoto, Katsuhiro Otomo, Haruki Murakami, Sergei Lukyanenko, Miyuki Miyabe, and I’m sure I’m forgetting quite a few.
